"The flame that burns twice as bright burns half as long." Lao Tzu

Hello Katie's friends and family,

There are several reasons for this special “Katie Trudgian” page.

So many people have sent me messages telling me how wonderful Katie was.  I thought it would be lovely if other people could read all those lovely things about her too.

So if you have something you’d like to say please add it either by clicking on “Add a Story” or “Send a thought”, or you can add a picture and make comments on that. All in the “Contribute” section.

A few people have also asked if they can donate to a chosen charity.  There was no doubt in my mind which charity to choose for this as if it wasn’t for the wonderful people at Dorothy House, Farmer Pete & I would have really struggled to make it through the tough times over the last 8 months. The carers who visited Katie every day are some of the most amazing people in the world.  They didn’t just perform a set routine with Katie they really did care for her and about her.  They also made her feel special. The admin staff were also lovely and a great support to me.

The original arrangement was supposed to be temporary while a permanent solution was found. This proved hard to set up and Katie was reluctant to give up the lovely ladies that provided such excellent care each day anyway. She ended up being their longest ever patient by many months!

So if you’d like to help support this wonderful Hospice in honour of my extraordinary sister for all the remarkable work they do that would be great – thank you.

I’m also trying to put together a play list for the “Celebration of Katie’s Life” we are planning.  If you have a song or songs that were special to you and her please let me know by email, text or message.

Similarly we are going to make "Katie photo bunting" so if you have any pictures you can send me I’d be grateful.  I’m happy with photos of photos.

Once we have a date for the Celebration I will add it to this page.

Thoughts

It was Katie’s giggle that I heard first, before I even saw her and then she was there. We had plenty of them on our ‘girly’ trips away, along with a few pickles, plenty of hiccups and many bubbles. I loved listening to her stories from her time in LA and Curaçao, but her dream was to live on farm and have a lovely waggy dog. The ‘2 left shoes’ story, beautifully told from Caroline still feels like it happened last week. I’ll never forget the alarm that shot through us all, when Katie proudly pulled her purchase from her bag, closely followed by tears of laughter cascading down our faces. Lovely reading all your other stories Katie, rest in peace sweet lady.

I met Katie in LA in 1993 when we were nannies out there. Wherever Katie was there was fun and literally games. She opened the boot of her car once and it was stuffed full of board games. Very often a night out or in ended in a couple of games. I will never forget her turning up late the night before my wedding ladden with buckets of wild flowers. She had driven up from Cornwall and had gone in the fields gathering flowers before she came. Typical Katie. Katie had a heart of gold. As my husband said "she would give you the shirt off her back, if only she could find it". Katie would do anything for anyone. My daughters thought the world of her and loved her Easter eggs hunts, treasure hunts and dog hunts that she organised for them. She was a mad cap, crazy aunt that we will all miss terribly. I will never forget the last phone call I had with Katie. She told me her farmer had strimmed a pathway through the field all the way to the woods and had pushed her in the wheelchair all the way to the woods, where he had put a table and chairs and a picnic. She told me how lucky she was. I will always cherish those last words with her and thanks Pete for making her so happy. What a gal. Love you Katie. Suzanne

Katie and Poppy came to see me 7yrs ago just as I started my canine massage business....she was one of my first customers and has been with me ever since.... When she first started coming she would usually be late....one day I got a phone call from the cycle shop a few miles away saying they had a lost lady in the store and could I direct her....she’d been to see me a number of times before but still managed to get lost.... After that I realised just how delightfully bonkers she really was.... I will most definitely miss her....
